Bill Beatty at Telephone Services, Inc. talks about his accounting, payroll and more.
Bill Beatty was working as VP at Telephone Services, Inc. (TSI) in Lewisville when the business came up for sale in 2005, and he jumped at the chance to own it.
After all, how hard could it be to own the business after having already run and managed it?
Luckily Bill had the good sense to ask Williams & Kunkel, CPAs, LLP who had left a good impression on him when he installed a phone system for them a few years earlier.
But Bill was like no other business owner. His military training had not only equipped him with his telecommunications expertise, but made him very precise about how he managed his business accounting.
Bill says he wouldn’t be in business today if it hadn’t been for Williams & Kunkel, CPAs, LLP.
“The best thing was taking over TSI,” says Bill. “But I didn’t have a clue about the CPA side, despite managing and running the business. It’s like night and day with state tax and state registrations. We have employees working out of 10-12 states so we turn to Williams & Kunkel, CPAs, LLP to do all our payroll and multi-state taxes and make sure we’re compliant.”
Over the years Bill has come to lean on Williams & Kunkel, CPAs, LLP for more than just tax and payroll services. Each quarter he meets with Beth and Scott to compare his numbers for tax purposes plus analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), such as how TSI is tracking.
“We also look at things like future projections, our lead generation pipeline and growth potential,” says Bill. “From that we gain a bigger overview of how TSI is performing.”

“We have been doing strategic tax planning for a couple of years now. Bill laughs when he recalls Beth asking where he got his ‘accounting degree’ because he presents all his records to the Flower Mound office in such good order. It’s a welcomed weekly ritual for Bill to drop off his payroll records for processing, only to be greeted by Williams & Kunkel, CPAs, LLP’s smiling faces.
“I have been approached by other CPA firms over the years, but not even a herd of wild horses would make me change my accountants,” says Bill. “If you have a good CPA, you hang onto them with both hands!”
