CPA Beth’s bodybuilding dream becomes a reality…
Flower Mound CPA and co-owner of Williams & Kunkel CPAs, Beth A Williams, placed as a newcomer in the Masters Bikini Division at The National Physique Committee (NPC) JTF Physique Championships held at the Irving Convention Center over the weekend.
The contest was promoted by Jennifer and Lee Thompson of Thompson Muscle Contest and NSPIRE.
Acclaimed as the premier amateur physique organization in the world, taking part was the pinnacle of Beth’s year after a full program of physical and mental preparation.
By participating in the event, Beth shed the image of what everyone imagines to be a straight-laced accountant. Committing to the competition was almost as challenging as starting her own business and developing it into a successful enterprise.
As a novice to the NPC, training for the rigorous competition required Beth to set some strict goals. Tapping into her inner entrepreneur helped, and the lessons she learned throughout the process were not discarded after the judges handed out their medals.
“Undertaking the challenge to compete amongst such an accomplished field of some 230 experienced and enthusiastic entrants renewed my outlook to coaching entrepreneurs and small businesses by being their accountability partner and most trusted advisor.”
“Setting goals and the importance of developing an action plan, managing timeline and accountability, measuring progress and maintaining self-discipline with our clients is very much a part of what we do at Williams & Kunkel,” said Beth. “It was interesting to see if I could use this approach in preparing for a competition which is very different from my day job.”
“The training is harder than anything I’ve ever done in my life: strict meal plans, measuring all my food, weight workouts and cardio every single day, no dinners out and absolutely no cheating – that’s hard to do for a whole year! Thankfully my belief in God gave me the motivation and ability to confront the challenges along the way. I also could not have done it without my great trainers, Rachel Braun and Jesse James Leyva. They are clients of Williams and Kunkel, CPA, LLP, so it was a beautiful fit both ways.”
“I learned so much about myself and hope to inspire others that you can achieve anything you want to in life. All it takes is a burning desire. But you also have to add the discipline, the timeline and the accountability to follow through. But it’s so worth it – I am stronger on the inside as well as the outside, and feel empowered to face the next big challenge!”
